Easton Hirdes

Some better news today; Easton is being moved out of ICU and into a private room. He seems to be responding well to the antibiotic treatment and had a night without fever or blood pressure issues. He's still draining fluid but it seems to have stabilized. Please continue to pray...Easton is doing better but still a long ways from being recovered!

Easton has had a setback; there was fluid that kept accumulating in his head until the incision from the surgery opened up. The doctors now say he has bacterial meningitis. This is a serious situation and very scary for his parents (and the rest of the family). They plan on performing a surgery today to open the incision completely, clean it and try to repair wherever it is that is leaking spinal fluid. Please pray for little Easton!

Frank's friend, Dave, still hasn't had surgery scheduled, but it sounds like the situation in his heart is even more serious than originally thought; he may need a quadruple or quintuple bypass surgery now. He has some more appointments in February to determine exactly what they will do and when. Meanwhile, he is a bit discouraged. Please pray for Dave.

Christopher's latest scan last week showed that the tumor on his brain stem has decreased in size by more than half! (In fact, it's possible it has shrunk even more than that and that some of what is on the scan is scar tissue) This is SUCH an amazing answer to prayer!! His chemotherapy has stopped for now and they well scan again in 3 months. Many thanks from the family for your continued prayers!

Please continue to lift up Easton in your prayers! His surgery yesterday was delayed, and he didn't get out of surgery until 8pm. The surgery ended up being far more involved than they had originally planned, and now (Thursday morning) he isn't doing very well and they are having a difficult time stabilizing him. Please pray for little Easton's health! Pray too for his parents, Dan & April, who are extremely anxious and having a hard time seeing their son in this state.

Please pray for Vern & Sadie's grandson, Easton, who will be having some facial reconstructive surgery on the 18th. They will be removing some bone from the back of his skull and putting it between his eyes. Prayers for a safe surgery are much appreciated!

Please pray for Frank's friend, Dave. Dave was planning on having a bariatric surgery, but leading up to the procedure they discovered he has severe blockage in some arteries of his heart. They have put in a stent but he will also require a triple bypass. Pray for the surgeries, and for Dave to not be discouraged.

Joyce has still not been able to come home from the hospital; they have been having a difficult time getting her infection under control and don't want to send her home until they do. She also had a bit of a scare related to low hemoglobin and the blood infusion to treat it, but that seems fine now. Please keep praying for Joyce's healing!

Joyce is at Butterworth Hospital with a case of cellulitis (an infection in her skin). A spot first showed up on Thursday and then quickly spread, while Joyce began to feel very ill, so her son, Tom, decided it was best to get her to the hospital Thursday night. She will likely be there 2-3 days. Please pray for a quick recovery for Joyce!

Sandi found out that her heart function hasn't been responding to the cardio therapy the way it should be. She has decided to undergo a surgery to put in a defibrillator that will keep her heart beating correctly. The surgery hasn't been scheduled yet...it will likely be the week of December 20th. Al's heart has been doing better, but still wasn't where it should be so he went ahead and underwent the procedure to shock his heart back into rhythm (cardioversion) yesterday. The procedure went great and Al's heart responded perfectly. Please pray now that the normal heart rhythm will "stick".

Christopher will be starting an aggressive course of chemotherapy and radiation treatment this week for the growth near his brain stem. They still aren't 100% sure if the tumor is cancerous (they're unable to biopsy it because of where it is) but the tumor IS growing. Please continue to pray for healing and for strength for Christopher as he undergoes this rigorous treatment.

Dave & Millie would appreciate your prayers for their grandson, Christopher. He is a 21-yr-old student at Central MI Univ. He had been very ill, so his parents went and got him and discovered that there is something going on in his brain that is causing fluid buildup. He will have a shunt placed tomorrow afternoon to drain the fluid and relieve the pressure. Meanwhile, they will need to determine what exactly the issue is. Please pray for him!

Sandi had her latest x-ray this past week and was hoping to get the go-ahead to put weight on her foot & leg while wearing the boot she has had on. Well, many of you saw Wednesday night that she IS walking, and not even in the boot but in normal shoes! Praise God for her continued progress! This means she can also start her cardio rehab which is good news. Thanks for praying for Sandi's recovery.

John's thumb was crushed pretty seriously while at work Monday night. He will be seeing a specialist on Wednesday to find out what will need to be done, but it could need surgery. Please pray for John and for comfort and healing for his thumb. Pray too for the Richards' finances; at this point they don't know when John will be able to go back to work or when his short-term disability will go into effect and they are understandably concerned about that too.

Some good news for Sherryl today! The doctors have determined that she has a bowel infection that was brought on by the heavy IV antibiotics she had been on for so long. Now it should clear up with the oral antibiotics she is taking; in the meantime she is contagious so they've decided the best place for her to be is in her own home, which will be great! She's in good spirits and starting to feel better. Thanks for praying.

They now think she was having a reaction to high levels of antibiotic. She's not quite "home" yet...she is at a nursing home to help her recover, but this is still progress! She has a nasogastric tube in for feeding; otherwise they seem to have to simply wait this out, which has been very hard and discouraging. Keep praying!

Linda is still in recovery, but from the sounds of things her surgery today went great...praise God! They also took out some lymph nodes and won't have pathology reports from those until next week. Please continue to pray for Linda's recovery and that the path results next week are negative.
UPDATE: Linda is now in her room. She's in a fair amount of pain and discomfort right now, and is having a problem with her eyes (she may have scratched them while under anesthesia?). Thanks for your continued prayers.

We have news on Erica; the surgery itself for her shoulder went fairly well, but she is dealing with some severe complications that have left her extremely sick. She had come home, but is now back in the hospital, (the surgery was at St. Mary's, but now she's at Butterworth). Please pray for Erica! Pray that she would be healed soon from these issues and for comfort and relief.

Linda has been diagnosed with uterine cancer, however, after some tests and scans, her outlook is as good as it could be. The cancer appears to be completely contained and she is scheduled for a hysterectomy next Tuesday (Sep. 6th). During the procedure they will check lymph nodes to be extra sure that there hasn't been any spread of the cancer. Praise God for His goodness! Please pray for Linda and her surgery next week. Pray that the surgery goes well, that the lymph nodes are clear and for her recovery afterward.

Also, she has had a couple of falls and is now using a walker and is just generally discouraged. She has a doctor's appointment Friday and one Monday. Deborah's mom, Joanne, met with the oncologist on Friday and got some very encouraging news. She has been put on a pill form of chemotherapy that has been given a prognosis of giving her at least 3 years (and possibly many more) with a minimum of side effects. Praise God for this positive news; it is a huge relief for the family! She has started the medication and your continued prayers for its success are appreciated.

God is good! Sherryl had the surgery today to remove part of her pancreas, and she came through the surgery very well. The surgeon is very encouraged about her prognosis. She still needs our prayers; the recovery is going to be long and painful, but it looks like it may have solved the issues she has been having for so long. Thank you so much for all your prayers!

Pray for the Wendts, as Steve's mother has recently been given 3-6 months to live, but her family believes it is even less. She was hospitalizes with blood clots in both of her lungs last week. During that time, they found her breast cancer (that was treated a couple of years ago) has actually spread and is now classified as stage 4. Pray for Steve and Lynn as they figure out plans to see her in the next few days. Also pray for comforting for the entire family during this very difficult time.

Sandi was admitted to the hospital again this morning because of shortness of breath that is due to a combination of fluid overload in her lungs and an embolism in her leg related to the broken bones. She is at Metro and in ICU right now; no prediction yet as to when she might be able to go home. Your prayers are appreciated!

Sandi is awake and responsive and making definite progress! Her blood pressure is stable and it sounds like they will be removing the vent soon (so she will be breathing on her own) and they may try to get her sitting up today. Praise God for answered prayers! Please continue to pray; she is doing much better but still has a ways to go and there are still blocked arteries that will need to be addressed.

Next week Sherryl will have the stent, which has not been working, out of her pancreas. Then, on August 4th they will perform a surgery to remove about half of her pancreas. This is radical and risky surgery, but they believe it to be the only viable option left to address the ongoing problems. Please continue to pray!

Kelly Knight's brother-in-law, John Kolenbrander, passed away this morning. He had been battling ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) for the last 7 years. Pray as well for his family, especially his wife (Kelly's sister) Sherri who had been his only care taker during this time. Pray from comfort as she deals with the loss of husband as well as a time of recovery from the last 7 years of caring for him.

I just found out that Scott is home from the hospital! He was able to come home on Sunday afternoon and has been slowly regaining strength and feeling better. Thanks for continuing to pray!

Marilynn just had her routine 3-month checkup to stay on top of the multiple myeloma that has been in remission. The good news is that it IS still considered in remission, however there is also a measurable trace of the cancer in her blood. It is a very small amount and it may not be a problem. The oncologist does not feel that any treatment is necessary right now, but he wants to stay on top of it. She will have another appointment in 2 months to follow up. Please pray that the levels don`t increase, or even decrease!

Erica just found out that she will be undergoing surgery on one of her shoulders in August. This is to repair an issue that has caused a lot of pain and discomfort. (She had the same surgery on the other shoulder a few years ago.) Also, she will be having some tests this Friday to diagnose some other problems she has been having. Your prayers are appreciated!

Frank`s surgery on Monday was very successful and the surgeon was very pleased and encouraged about the outcome. He ended up doing even more on Frank`s spine than originally planned, but everything went very well. The tentative plan is for Frank to go home sometime before the weekend, depending on how he is doing. Praise God for His goodness and protection! Pray now for Frank`s recovery, which is going to take some time.
